The Alan Hook Memorial Award
Description & Recipients
Alan Hook was a member of the 1991-92 Varsity Basketball team (a 3 year Varsity Letterman). Alan helped lead the Spartans to a 20-7 season, the best in school history before the class of 1993 tackled that record with a 28-4 season. Alan finished his High School Career with these incredible accomplishments:
After high school, Alan joined the Air Force and played football for the Air Force Academy. As expected, Alan excelled well and was sent to Harvard, paid for by the Air Force .
Alan was headed for training as an Air Force fighter pilot, but on June 26, 1998 while in Switzerland on vacation with his fiancée he was in a fatal biking accident.
Caroline Wollner, Alan Hook's fiancée at the time, ran her first marathon after training with Alan for many months and decided to honor his memory with the creation of the 1st Lt. Alan Michael Hook Memorial Award, recognizing a senior graduating from his alma mater, South Torrance High School.
Alan was the model student at South High School, a great friend and a true American kid. Some say that Alan was "The All American Kid" or the next President of The United States. Alan also earned his Eagle Award as a Boy Scout. He was a well put together young man, classy, professional, very mature for someone of his age and was the epitome of the ideal student-athlete and a parent's dream.
In memory of Alan, we present this award to an athlete that best fits these criteria:
